Science Concepts

Mitochondria

A double-membrane-bound organelle found in most eukaryotic organisms. It generates most of the cell's supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), used as a source of chemical energy.

Mitosis

A part of the cell cycle when replicated chromosomes are separated into two new nuclei. Cell division gives rise to genetically identical cells in which the number of chromosomes is maintained.

pH Scale

A numeric scale used to specify the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution. It is roughly the negative of the logarithm to base 10 of the activity of the hydrogen ion.

Metric Conversions

The process of changing a measure from one unit to another within the metric system (e.g., kilograms to grams).

Ratios and Proportions

A ratio is a comparison of two quantities. A proportion is an equation stating that two ratios are equal.
